Does the the Quran make direct reference to the atom or subatomic particles? -NO

The arabic word ” dhara” is translated as atom and it is accepted by many scholars as an appropriate translation of “dhara” but this should not be considered to be a “scientific miracle.”

Quran 99 7

فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًۭا يَرَهُۥ ٧
So whoever does an (dhara) atom’s weight of good will see it.

The classical scholars understood “dhara” to be ant( Suyuti,Tabari ) and red ant (Qurtubi) while Ibn Abbas was of the opinion it is the head of an ant.
Ibn Kathir understood “dhara”to be speck of dust.
In 1808, chemist John Dalton argued that all matter is made of tiny, little units. He presented a compelling scientific argument for the existence of units that matter is composed of.
The word ‘atom’ actually comes from ancient Greek. Democritus (460–370 BC) who outlined the idea that everything is made of atoms, invisible and indivisible spheres of matter. The original meaning of the word “dhara” was of something considerably larger than an atom, reflecting the knowledge of the people at the time of quranic revelation and during the time of the classical scholars.
The intended meaning however is clear that the word “dhara” should be understood as “the smallest thing “. In English, the word atom would be most appropriate and accepted by most people.

Today, most of the contemporary islamic scholars concur that “”dhara” should be translated as atom.
