Quran 71 (15-16)
“See you not how Allah has created the seven heavens one above another ,And has made the moon a light THEREIN and the sun as a ˹radiant˺ lamp “
The 7 heavens is interpreted as the atmosphere in the verse above. We can deduce 2 facts from the above statement (ie. statements no. 1 and 2 below)
1-The 7 heavens occur in layers (The atmosphere occurs in layers)
2-The moon exists within the atmosphere (scientific evidence proves the moon occurs within the geocorona which is the upper most part of the atmosphere composed of hydrogen)
3-The above verse does not indicate that the sun exists within the atmosphere but only the sun is a ˹radiant˺ lamp?
Does the moon really exist in earths atmosphere as the verse above suggests? YES
The geocorona is the luminous part of the outermost region of the earth’s atmosphere, the exosphere.
Scientific studies indicate that the geocorona reaches far beyond the moon. Initially, the Apollo 16 astronauts took an amazing photograph of the Earth’s geocorno enclosing the moon and shining brightly in ultraviolet light in 1972. The astronauts on the lunar surface, however, were unaware that they were immersed in the geocorona’s fringes. Later, in January 1996, 1997, and 1998, the Solar Wind Anisotropies or Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SWAN/SOHO) instrument was used to map the Earth’s hydrogen exosphere using Lyman-radiation.
The study is also strongly supported by S. Kameda et al 2017, and the first
image of the entire geocorona that extends to more than 38 Earth radii (earth radius is 6371km) was obtained using the Lyman Alpha Imaging Camera on board the Proximate Object Close Flyby with Optical Navigation spacecraft, which is located outside the exosphere. Based on this scientific evidence, the geocorona extends more than 38 times 6371km, or 242098 km. The distance between the earth and the moon is approximately 384400km.
The study by I. I. Baliukin et al 2019 demonstrated that the hydrogen
geocorona extends well beyond the moon using SWAN/SOHO Lyman-Alpha
Mapping, and the most important result of this work proved that the geocoronal emission extends up to 100 earth radii (about 640 000km), well beyond the orbit of the Moon (60 Earth radius or about 380,000 km).
The study concluded that for an observatory on the Moon or in orbit around the Moon, there is a geocoronal emission of 10 Rayleigh in directions perpendicular to the Earth-Moon line, which adds up to the ubiquitous IP emission (200-1000 R, depending on the direction and solar cycle).
The European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA in 2019 proved that the geocorona, a hydrogen envelope that wraps around our planet, extends up to 630,000 km (391,464 miles) using the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), a spacecraft launched in 1995 to study the sun.
