Quran, science and “GENERIC TERMS”

1-What do you mean by generic terms or words ?
Generic words/ terms are vague or non specific. These words have broad meaning and therefore have a wide variety of interpretations. They should be interpreted in the appropriate context.

2-THESE GENERIC TERMS SHOULD NOT BE RESRICTED TO HAVING ONE MEANING BUT SHOULD BE INTERPRETED ACCORDING TO THE CONTEXT IN WHICH THEY OCCUR.

EXAMPLES OF QURANIC GENERIC TERMS
SAMAA (sky)
ARD(earth)
NUTFAH(a drop)
SABA SAMAWAAT (7 heavens)

THE SCIENTIFIC TERMS USED TO DESCRIBE THESE GENERIC WORDS/PHRASES IS DEPENDANT ON THE CONTEXT IN WHICH THE WORD/TERM OCCURS

3-The Quran was released 1400 years ago and not much was known about science and medicine.
There is thus no specific word in arabic for modern scientific terms that would be accepted 1400 years ago.

4-There was no arabic words to describe zygote, atmosphere, outer space etc

5- Allah SWT utilizes generic terms in verses related to science.
eg SAMAA(sky) is used to describe both atmosphere and outer space.
One has to interpret it appropriately according to the context it is used in.
ARD(Earth) is used to describe both the planet and land mass and top soil.

.
6-Trying to match the generic word with an appropriate scientific word is considered to be a core feature in the study of Quran and science.

7-Allah SWT and His Prophet SAW know best
